Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 20, 2026 Last updated: June 20, 2026
1. Who we are
Tethr ("Tethr," "we," "us," or "our") is a non-clinical recovery support and reflective companion product based in Pasadena, California. You can reach us at privacy@tethred.com.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the Tethr website and mobile application (together, the "Service"), how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have.
2. Important: Tethr is not a healthcare provider
Tethr is a consumer wellness and recovery-support product. It is not a therapist, counselor, doctor, or healthcare provider, and it does not provide therapy, counseling, diagnosis, treatment, or medical advice. Tethr is not a HIPAA "covered entity," and the information you share with us is generally not "protected health information" (PHI) under HIPAA. We still treat the information you share, including what you write in your check-ins, journal, and conversations with Haven, as sensitive, and we protect it as described below.
3. Information we collect
Information you give us directly:
- Account information. Your name, email address, and password when you create an account. Passwords are stored in hashed form by our authentication provider; we never see your plaintext password.
- Profile information. An optional profile photo (avatar) and any profile details you choose to add.
- Check-ins and mood data. Mood, energy, anxiety, and sleep ratings; the emotions and physical sensations you select; and any notes you add during a check-in.
- Journal entries. The titles and content of journal entries you create.
- Conversations with Haven. The full text of your messages to Haven, our AI recovery companion, and Haven's replies. These conversations may include sensitive information about your recovery, mental and emotional state, relationships, and substance use. We store this conversation history so the Service can function and so you can return to it.
- Support and other communications. Information you provide when you contact us for support or otherwise communicate with us.
Information collected automatically:
- Usage and device information. Basic technical information such as your device type, browser, IP address, and how you interact with the Service, collected through standard server logs and our hosting provider.
- Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to keep you signed in and to operate the Service.
Payment information:
- When you subscribe, your payment is processed by Stripe (and, for purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play, by Apple or Google). We do not collect or store your full card number. We receive limited information such as your subscription status and the last four digits and card brand from our payment processor to manage your account.
4. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including your check-ins, journal, badges, notifications, and conversations with Haven;
- Generate Haven's AI responses to you (see Section 5);
- Create and manage your account and process your subscription and payments;
- Send you Service-related communications and notifications;
- Respond to your support requests;
- Maintain the security and integrity of the Service and detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, or abuse;
- Comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California law.
5. How Haven (AI) uses your information
When you send a message to Haven, your message, recent conversation history, and your first name are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, which generates Haven's reply using its Claude models. We send only what is needed to produce a relevant response.
- Your Haven conversations are stored in your account so you can continue and revisit them.
- Based on our agreement with Anthropic, conversation content sent through the Anthropic API is not used to train Anthropic's models.
- Haven's responses are generated by software. They can be inaccurate or incomplete and are not professional, medical, or clinical advice. See the Terms of Service for the full AI disclaimer.
6. How we share your information
We share personal information only as described here:
- Service providers. We use trusted third parties to operate the Service. Each receives only the information needed to perform its function and is bound to protect it:
- Supabase for database, authentication, and file storage hosting.
- Anthropic for AI processing for Haven (see Section 5).
- Stripe for subscription billing and payment processing.
- Vercel for application hosting and delivery.
- Apple and Google, if you purchase a subscription through their app stores, process that payment and manage that billing relationship.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to enforce our Terms; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of you, us, or others.
- Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.
We do not otherwise disclose the contents of your journal, check-ins, or Haven conversations to any third party.
7. Data retention
We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information, including your check-ins, journal entries, and Haven conversations, except where we are required to retain certain information to comply with legal, tax, or accounting obligations, or to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.
8. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:
- The right to access or receive a copy of your information;
- The right to correct inaccurate information;
- The right to delete your information;
- The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information (we do not sell or share it);
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights.
California residents. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, you have the rights described above. The categories of personal information we collect are described in Section 3, including categories that may be considered "sensitive personal information" (such as the contents of your communications with Haven and information about your health or recovery). We use sensitive personal information only to provide the Service you request. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@tethred.com. We will verify your request, typically by confirming control of your account email, before acting on it. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
9. How we protect your information
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, encryption at rest provided by our hosting and database providers, and database access controls designed so that each user can only access their own data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and applicable authorities as required by law.
10. Children's privacy
Tethr is intended for adults and is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If we learn that we have collected information from someone under the required age, we will delete it.
11. Crisis and emergencies
Tethr and Haven are not emergency services and cannot help in a crisis. If you are thinking about harming yourself, are in danger, or are experiencing a medical emergency, call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in the U.S.) or call 911 immediately. See our Terms of Service for more.
12. Where your information is processed
Our service providers may process and store your information in the United States. If you access Tethr from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
